    • GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE COURSE

      In this topic you will be introduced to animal production which refers to the process of managing and utilizing domesticated animals for various purposes, including the production of goods and services essential to human needs. This broader term encompasses both livestock production and other activities related to animals. Animal production involves the breeding, rearing, and care of domesticated animals to obtain products such as meat, milk, eggs, leather, wool, and other by-products.

      The scope of animal production extends beyond traditional livestock and may also include animals kept for non-food purposes, such as companionship, recreation, research, or as working animals. The goals of animal production is  to efficiently and sustainably meet human needs for food, clothing, and other products, while also considering ethical and welfare considerations for the animals involved.

      In summary, while livestock production specifically focuses on animals raised for agricultural purposes, animal production is a broader term that encompasses a wide range of human interactions with domesticated animals, serving various needs and industries.  

      MAIN CONCEPTS TO BE COVERED

      This course will provide you with the ability to :  Develop an overview of the nature of animals, animal science, and animal production; - Become familiar with terminology used in animal science as it relates to the industry, management practices, equipment and animals, develop a basic understanding of the value and contributions which animals can contribute to the human needs; - Develop an understanding of animal species and breeds that compromise the livestock production and their relative importance from economic and social perspectives; - Develop a basic understanding of animal genetics and breeding, nutrition, reproduction, behavior, welfare and health; - Develop a basic understanding of current management practices as it relates to raising the common farm animal species, . swine, poultry, and cattle ,rabbits .
